Position: Veterinary Medical Team Technician (Full-time average 36-40 hours per week, hourly position)

Starting Pay: $16.00-17.00/hr

Position Overview:

The Texas Humane Heroes Veterinary Medical Team Technician will understand and be able to communicate Texas Humane Heroes mission, vision and goals, follow cleaning protocols, handle animals safely, and exhibit a positive and professional attitude. The position is responsible for assisting the Veterinary Medical Team in ensuring the health, care, and wellbeing of animals in need of medical attention at Texas Humane Heroes.


Please know that this position is physically demanding. Approximately four hours each day are dedicated to deep cleaning of kennels and animal areas. This includes prolonged standing, walking, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs, etc.


Organizational Structure:

Veterinary Medical Team Technician reports to the Director of Medical Services


Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Health and Wellness of Program Animals
  • Daily cleaning, feeding, watering and medicating all program animals who are in isolation/treatment areas
  • Move sick/contagious animals into isolation areas for treatment and create a treatment plan
  • Manage Ringworm patients and ensure treatments are completed twice weekly
  • Ability to locate illness and determine treatment plan for critical cases and communicate with staff effectively to ensure cleaning procedures are followed correctly
  • Administer regular preventive medications and vaccinations
  • Ability to use Pet Point program to input care and medical information, look up animal information, and update in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with Fosters and Foster Coordinator
  • Ability to communicate with Foster Coordinator and Fosters effectively regarding animal health concerns and treatment plans
  • Prepare medications needed for fosters and give detailed instructions to ensure Fosters are comfortable administering medications needed
  • Ability to administer vaccinations and preventatives to foster animals when due
  • Coordinate with Intake Manager regarding new animals
  • Communicate effectively with Intake Manager and follow up with previous medical history as needed
  • Assist Vet Techs with new intake exams as needed including:
  • Providing and administering all necessary preventive medications, microchips, vaccinations and Heartworm/Felv tests as needed in order to prepare for adoption
  • Daily Operations
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks while working on an individual basis
  • Work closely with Vet Tech team to ensure all tasks are completed each day in a timely manner
  • Speak with adopters who have questions/concerns about animals’ health
  • Discuss animal’s condition and any follow up care they may require after adoption as well as signing medical waivers
