On the Ground Engagement Manager - Ypsilanti

Job Description

The engagement manager will work closely with the Concentrate team on an embedded journalism program in Ypsilanti called On The Ground. The engagement manager will maintain a regular presence in Ypsilanti and collaborate with the local project manager and managing editor on events and a social media strategy. This candidate must be well connected in the Ypsilanti community and live in Ypsilanti or Ypsilanti Township.

The engagement manager will post updates on a weekly basis to Concentrate’s social media accounts. Additionally, the engagement manager will be responsible for developing relationships with residents and business leaders in Ypsilanti. Furthermore, ideal candidates will have prior experience working with and/or mentoring people of color, or members of other underrepresented groups.

Responsibilities for the engagement manager include:

Community engagement

  • Engage with community members and develop relationships with them

  • Send over possible editorial contacts that can be used for story ideas

Event Planning

The project team may choose to host one or more small events to encourage dialogue around important topics.

  • Plan and facilitate 2-4 dedicated editorial advisory meetings for community partners and stakeholders

  • Collaborate with project team to develop event programming, including special events or light programming

  • Develop brief for event strategy that outlines goals, format, target audience and desired outcomes

  • Manage event budget and oversee all event logistics with support from project team

      • Find venue, caterer

      • Develop event theme

      • Develop marketing materials for event and advertise on social media, networks, etc.

  • Maintain presence in person and on social media at all project or community events agreed upon by team

Social Media

  • Develop a comprehensive social media strategy for On The Ground Ypsilanti

  • Maintain regular, predictable social media presence on Concentrate’s accounts.

  • Distribute On the Ground content across all social media platforms to maximize impact and reach

  • Target and grow an audience of engaged readers and followers

 

Administration

  • Participate in weekly or biweekly project meetings

  • Manage engagement budget, track expenses and provide reporting

  • Provide regular social media analytics
