Product Designer

Design | New York, NY | Full Time

Job Description

Join the A.I. company tackling some of the most consequential problems facing the world today. Gro Intelligence is a fast-growing, mission-driven data and analytics company dedicated to understanding the interconnected global markets for all agricultural products. From the food we eat to the clothing we wear and the gasoline in millions of cars across the globe, agriculture touches our daily existence like few other industries.  And it’s being completely upended by climate change, trade wars, finite global resources, fickle public policies, a growing population and ever-changing human tastes (e.g. organic produce, plant-based proteins, etc).  Come help us understand the complex interplay of these various forces and their ripple effect on global markets.

With offices in both New York and Nairobi, and the financial backing of prominent investors including TPG Growth and Data Collective, Gro is a diverse team of more than 70 technologists, scientists, and business professionals.  Our team is growing rapidly and we’re looking for highly motivated, intellectually curious individuals with a shared commitment to building software that impacts the world on the most basic level.

Gro has been featured prominently alongside the company’s founder and CEO in several recent outlets including Recode Decode with Kara Swisher, Fast Company’s Most Creative People, Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Business, and Vanity Fair’s Inside the Hive with Nick Bilton.

You’re a designer with system design (websites, apps) and graphic/visual design background.  Your attention to detail and natural curiosity leads to a comprehensive and well thought out end-to-end experience. This is not a massively conceptual role, but it is one of systematic (design) problem solving where every solution is explored no-matter how small.

Please include a portfolio that includes innovative digital work that touches branding, product and email marketing.

What You’ll Do:

  • Work with our Product Management and Engineering team to gather customer and end-user requirements, delivering mockups and specifications that accurately reflect the UX vision.

  • Conduct aspects of the product design including taking research findings and creating conceptual designs, prototyping, and post-launch evaluation.

  • Work with other designers to envision and iterate concepts.

  • Contribute to existing visual standards and design system for our products.

What You Have:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, or similar UX-related role with accompanying experience in visual/graphic design.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the user-centered design process and the ability to create production-ready screen layouts, style guides, pattern libraries, and other visual elements.

  • Experience using wireframing and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Invision Axure or Figma.

  • Experience in Agile, Design Thinking, Lean UX or Lean Start-up methods.

  • Have a strong ability to communicate your design vision through verbal and written explanations, sketching, or quick mockups.

You will be a good fit for this role if:

  • You are a problem-solver, who can work independently and give more than you take.

  • You have a proactive mindset and aptitude to work effectively on multiple projects at the same time.

  • A fast-paced environment where you actively collaborate with product leads and developers doesn’t faze you.

  • You’re a self-starter, you teach yourself the platform, play with existing functionality, and pitch ideas to incremental improve the platform.

Bonus Points:

·       Experience working on SaaS products

·       Experience designing analytical dashboards and/or data visualizations

·       Experience in conducting user research
