Junior Communication Designer (Contract)

Design | New York, NY | Contract

Job Description

Join the A.I. company tackling some of the most consequential problems facing the world today. Gro Intelligence is a fast-growing, mission-driven data and analytics company dedicated to understanding the interconnected global markets for all agricultural products. From the food we eat to the clothing we wear and the gasoline in millions of cars across the globe, agriculture touches our daily existence like few other industries.  And it’s being completely upended by climate change, trade wars, finite global resources, fickle public policies, a growing population and ever-changing human tastes (e.g. organic produce, plant-based proteins, etc).  Come help us understand the complex interplay of these various forces and their ripple effect on global markets.

With offices in both New York and Nairobi, and the financial backing of prominent investors including TPG Growth and Data Collective, Gro is a diverse team of more than 70 technologists, scientists, and business professionals.  Our team is growing rapidly and we’re looking for highly motivated, intellectually curious individuals with a shared commitment to building software that impacts the world on the most basic level.

Gro has been featured prominently alongside the company’s founder and CEO in several recent outlets including Recode Decode with Kara Swisher, Fast Company’s Most Creative People, Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in Business, and Vanity Fair’s Inside the Hive with Nick Bilton.

As a designer at Gro Intelligence, you are also a visual problem solver—you dissect complex information to simplify and abstract it for easier audience digestion.  You will design high-quality content, including but not limited to: sales/executive presentations, collateral, infographics, diagrams, visualizations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Come to the table with creative ideas about how to tell Gro’s story to highly specific audiences.

  • As the internal expert in presentation/marketing design, help design data visualizations, campaigns, and artifacts to support product marketing, sales, client success, and executive leadership teams.

  • You will take complicated concepts and find new and unique ways of articulating and conceiving these concepts so that the deliverable brings our mission to life.

  • You’re constantly seeking design inspiration from all places and keep up with the latest design and email marketing trends.

What You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience producing presentations and collaterals across the sales and marketing spectrum. Agency experience is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic, communication or information design or equivalent fine arts education.

  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates a clean, modern aesthetic and a passion for visual, print and digital deliverables. Bonus points for examples of data visualization projects.

  • Deep knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, MS Office Suite, Sketch and Google G-Suite. Basic knowledge of HTML5/CSS3 and video editing skill is a plus.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of designing for various channels - email, social media units/banners, print, (understanding of paper stock standards and quality) graphic file formats and optimization for different platforms (print, web, mobile, etc.)

  • Must be a self-starter who’s comfortable working independently, work on numerous projects simultaneously and prioritize accordingly.

  • Work well under pressure, be attentive to detail, have excellent time management, and communication skills

  • Provide new business and client support, often after hours or on weekends.
