Job Description

About Gro:

Gro Intelligence is tackling two of the biggest problems facing the world today: food security and climate change. We understand and quantify the complex interplay between food, weather, trade, agriculture, and macroeconomic conditions in a world upended by climate change, a growing population, and more. The team at Gro has built a platform that allows businesses, non-profits, and governments to better plan for and adapt to these changes. With offices in both Nairobi and New York, Gro has the financial backing of prominent investors such as TPG Growth, Intel Capital, Data Collective, and GGV. Gro is a diverse, intellectually curious team of technologists, scientists, and business professionals united by a shared commitment to build AI that addresses agriculture, food, and our climate on the most fundamental level.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist Gro’s Editor in developing, editing, and rewriting a variety of communications about agriculture and climate for distribution to a wide range of industry, academic, and nonprofit professionals worldwide

  • Take charge of Gro’s core editing process of producing a regular stream of articles written by Gro’s research analysts (examples of these articles can be found on the Insights page of Gro’s website)

  • Work closely with Gro research analysts to suggest story ideas and assist the analysts in sharpening the stories’ focus

  • Keep close track of agricultural and climate news worldwide with the aim of developing story ideas that showcase the value of Gro’s data platform

  • Work closely with Gro’s sales and marketing teams to amplify Gro’s message in all communications

  • Own and manage Gro's editorial content calendar to address multiple company goals

  • Align all content to specific audiences, outline targets, and measure effectiveness. Report weekly on content impact

  • Post items on the Gro website to keep the editorial content up to date, including on the Insights, Blog, Press, and Gro Feed pages

  • Edit various other Gro communications and technical writing created by different Gro specialist teams

What We're Looking For:

  • A talented editor enthusiastic about working in a fast-growing, collegial startup that is generating increased influence in the areas of food security and assessing and adapting to climate-change risk

  • At least 4-5 years’ professional experience in business writing and editing. Skilled at interpreting technical material for an audience of industry professionals

  • Solid understanding of general business concepts and financial markets. Knowledge of agricultural commodity markets a plus

  • Experience (preferred) at building and managing an editorial calendar across multiple teams

  • Strong editorial judgment; ability to rapidly absorb complex ideas and distill them into accessible copy for global audiences

  • Highly accurate, with a penchant for double-checking statistics

  • Familiar with data presentations; adept at using Excel

  • Exceptional organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently and to deal with ambiguity

  • Positive attitude and team orientation

Perks:

Gro was founded in 2014 and currently has offices in Nairobi and New York City. The company was built on diversity and the knowledge that artificial intelligence is only as good as the human intelligence behind it. Gro’s team represents the world it is modeling. At the company, we speak more than 27 languages and we comprise a wide range of experts, from agronomists and crop scientists, to mathematicians, engineers, data scientists, market research analysts, designers, historians, and philosophers. Our culture fosters collaboration between people of extremely different backgrounds that allows us to accomplish things that would otherwise seem impossible.

Gro Intelligence is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and will consider all qualified applicants regardless of color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital or family status, disability, gender identity or expression, veteran status, actual or presumed belonging to an ethnic group, or any other legally protected status.
